Privacy Policy

Ascent Dive Log (“Ascent”, “the app”, “we”) is a dive logging app for Shearwater dive computers. The short version: Ascent does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your dive data stays on your device and in your own private iCloud.

Data we collect

None. Ascent has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs that gather data. We operate no servers that receive your information, and we have no access to your dive logs, location, or any other data you enter into the app.

Where your data lives

• On your device. Dive logs, gear, certifications, and profile information you create are stored locally on your iPhone.
• In your private iCloud. If you are signed in to iCloud, the app syncs this data across your own devices using Apple’s CloudKit private database. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy. The developer cannot access it.

Specific permissions

• Bluetooth. Used solely to connect to your Shearwater dive computer and download dive logs over a direct, local Bluetooth connection. No Bluetooth data is transmitted off your device to us or anyone else.
• Location. Used on your device to tag dive sites where your dive computer did not record GPS, and to display your dives on a map. Location data is stored only on your device and in your private iCloud. It is never sent to the developer or any third party. As stated in the app, it stays on your phone.

Purchases

Ascent Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the transaction; the developer never receives your payment details. Purchase records are managed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.

Children’s privacy

Ascent is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date.
